Summary:The Technician for quality assurance department provides technical support for all aspects of the RPO ISO 9001 Quality Management System. Provide and analyze statistical data for all manufacturing departments. Provide Root Cause / Corrective Action proposal for non-conforming product and processes. Performs inspection of material and product; creates and maintains related records and procedures. Occasionally perform related processes such as product cleaning, sorting, and defect classification. Supports all manufacturing, coating, and assembly operations with first-piece, FAI, RMA, receiving inspection, in-process inspection, and final product inspection. Supports shipment of product with data gathering, analysis, reporting and conformance verifications. May work in a cleanroom environment and low-light areas. Essential Job Duties:Create sampling plans for specific components from reference materialFrequent interaction with engineers and managers to provide updates, answer technical questions, and resolve day to day issuesProvide root cause analysis, corrective action proposals, and control of non-conforming productAttend and provide data for manufacturing review board (MRB) meetings Write inspection keycards and procedures from drawings, plans and similar specificationsEnter test and inspection results into computerized systems, including labor informationComplete Inspection and durability testing of coated optics and interpretation of coating dataSorting of rejected lotsTraining of individuals in inspection techniquesDimensional inspection using standard hand instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, and loupesVisual inspection for cosmetic or functional conditions using appearance standardsPerforms environmental testing per specifications and standardsComplete Internal, Process and other audits as assignedOther duties as assigned Minimum Requirements:Minimum of 5 years' experience of product/process inspections/technician activities, precision optics experience preferred Strong attention to detailUnderstanding of Quality philosophies and standards such as the PDCA cycle, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, Continual Improvement, Gage R&R, ISO 9001 preferredAbility to create inspection plans based on customer and internal documentationAbility to read prints and determine inspection needs and techniques, GD&T experience preferredAbility to create project plans and inspection work instructionsAbility to interact well with co-workersHigh tolerance for repetitious inspection and testingHighly proficient in MS OfficeAbility to use Minitab or similar computer programsAbility to use basic mechanical inspection equipmentAbility to measure optics using an interferometer and profilometer preferred.Ability to perform visual cosmetic inspection of productAbility to read and interpret industry, military and other specifications and standardsExperience in environmental tests such as thermal cycling, humidity, vibration, etc. preferred Abilities Required: Good manual dexterityAbility to follow directionsGood communication skillsBlueprint ReadingGood Multi-tasking skills Basic Computer skillsRequires initiative and mental concentration to learn new skills and techniques.Exercises independent judgment when inspecting parts acceptability for further operations Requirements and Competencies:Language Skills:Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations to management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. Education: Associate degree or equivalent experience in statistics, engineering or technical disciplineGreen belt certification or higher is preferred Mathematical Skills: Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts. Work Environment:May involve the use of oils and solvents.Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions. (Lab Coats provided)Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the environment as such.Safety Glasses are requiredMay require area specific safety trainingThis position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne paper particles.May be exposed to conditions prevalent in a manufacturing environment such as heat and humidity.May work at different workstations as production needs require, or shifts from one station to another, during the production process. Travel:This position may require a moderate amount of travel (Domestic & International) with the understanding that travel is absolutely required when market urgencies and opportunities arise.Schedule flexibility is required.
