Job Summary:
Clean & inspect optical components. This job requires excellent
visual acuity and manual dexterity. The ability to follow and write
work instructions and the ability pay attention to details and keep
organized records of the coating process is key to success for this
position. The Coating Technician will have a detailed understanding
of the optical handling and cleaning processes including sonic
cleaning, spectral measurement techniques and coating processes. An
in-depth understanding of vacuum equipment is required. In addition
to Coating Product a coating Tech will support coating operations.
Support to include, but may not be limited to; equipment
maintenance and preventive maintenance, testing, failure analysis,
process development, tooling design, and scheduling.
Summary of Essential Job Duties:
Clean & inspect optical components for coating and adaptor
selection
Coating Process
Coater prep , part loading
Crystal monitor setup
Monitor coating process
Unload and post process
Measure optical spectra, prepare samples for environmental testing,
and provide required data to QA personnel.
Keep accurate and complete coating records
Daily coater cleanup and perform/ assist during routine large scale
cleanup.
Help troubleshoot both process and equipment problems
Maintain equipment, tooling, adaptors and work area in accordance
with Good Manufacturing Practices, ISO and HSE protocols.
Continuous improvement of processes
Insure calibration conformance
Design tooling and process to meet schedule and quality
requirements and cost objectives
Generate work instructions that follow good manufacturing best
practices as well as all HSE requirements.
Train Coating associates on job-specific tasks as well as mentoring
in the area of coating , testing and spectral measurements
Responsible for control of process within Coating
Work closely with the Coating Manager to understand current
capabilities and work toward strategic capability improvements
Take a lead role in identifying training needs to fill gaps and
facilitate cross-training within these areas
Work closely with other functional areas at RPO to improve the flow
and quality of components to Coating
Be the champion for manufacturing excellence within Coating
Requirements and Competencies:
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability
to communicate effectively to team members and management.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts.
Educational Requirements:
Associates Decree, Apprenticeship, or equivalent experience
Minimum of 7 years' experience in the area of optical vacuum
coating and sonic cleaning processes and equipment.
Self-Starter capable of working with very little direction.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
required to stand: use hands to fingers, handle or feel: and reach
with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand,
walk, stoop, kneel, and crouch: and talk and hear.
The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and
ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified
inspection (eye strain)
Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger
dexterity, including ability to grasp.
The employee is frequently required to use the computer.
Work Environment:
May involve the use of oils and solvents.
Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions.
(Lab Coats provided)
Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the
environment as such.
Safety Glasses are required
May require area specific safety training
This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level
in the work environment is usually loud.
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and
fumes or airborne paper particles.
May work at different workstations as production needs require, or
shifts from one station to another, during the production
process.
