Job Description:
GENERAL PURPOSE:
This service-level position is primarily responsible for the
support of intensive care unit operations by cleaning, maintaining,
and stocking essential specialty supplies and equipment used for
patient care. The ICU operations tech-3 has a broad scope of
responsibility that includes, but is not limited to, stocking,
disinfecting locating or transporting equipment, ordering routine
supplies or equipment, or other tasks as assigned by the
supervisor.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The ICU Operations Technologist is responsible for the disinfection
(cleaning) labeling and storage of patient care equipment. A
routine cleaning schedule should be used to ensure all equipment
established and followed. Disinfection should be completed as soon
as the item is picked up and in accordance with hospital policy
using a hospital approved cleaner.
Unit-based equipment including EKG machine and cables, bladder
scanner, mobile patient lifts, etc., should be cleaned, labeled
"ready for patient use," then stored on the unit. Cables should be
cleaned per hospital policy and returned to the storage areas on
the unit or critical care central storage.
Hospital-based equipment such as IV poles, should be cleaned
following the equipment's instructions for use guidelines and the
Patient Care Equipment Cleaning Guidelines in Policy Stat.
Assists nursing and medical staff with any day-to-day operational
requests or to obtain / locate / retrieve / transport / inspect /
test / repair equipment or supplies (including CRRT/dialysis
equipment and supplies) used for patient care or as needed.
Retrieval, cleaning, disinfection, organization, and storage of
critical equipment and cables. Disinfection should be completed as
soon as the item is picked up and in accordance with hospital
policy using a hospital approved cleaner. Cables should be cleaned
per hospital policy and returned to the storage areas on the unit
or critical care central storage.
A functional/damage inspection of the article at the time of
disinfection should be completed and work order for repair ticket
should be placed and the item delivered to the appropriate location
for repair if needed.
The unit manager and supervisor should be notified via email that a
repair ticket has been placed and when work has been completed the
item should be retrieved and re-placed onto the unit. If the item
is damaged beyond repair, the manager should be notified, and a
replacement should be ordered.
Other similar tasks as assigned by supervisor or nurse manager.
On-unit inventory and par levels for supplies and specialty airway
equipment are determined by the unit managers and par levels should
be stocked to the prescribed levels daily.
Takes appropriate action in dealing with product recalls for
medical supplies.
Daily workflow checklist should be referenced and signed off when
stocking has been completed, then filed.
Monthly assessment for expired products and rotation of disposable
supplies will be conducted. Other similar tasks as assigned by
supervisor or nurse manager.
Completion of general tasks as requested by the unit nurse manager
such as assembly of carts, furniture, or other equipment and
supplies.
Cleaning/dusting, transport of malfunctioning or broken equipment
to clinical engineering, sterile supply, hospital stores, other
service support areas.
Retrieval of orders from loading dock.
Other similar tasks as assigned by supervisor or nurse manager.
Managing supply inventory and ordering using the online ordering
platform.
Gathers information to aid in evaluation of requests or suggestions
made by nursing or medical staff regarding medical supplies and
equipment.
Other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or equivalent required
Limited experience required
Strong interpersonal communications ability, ability to operate and
perform essential functions independently, strong prioritization
and multitasking skills required
Basic computer ability, including Word, Excel, Outlook, texting and
internet ordering required
Valid New York State Driver's License and ability to travel between
local hospitals during shift required
Ability to meet physical demands required of work required
