Responsibilities
Job Summary:
The role of the Area Coordinator for Graduate Housing is to work
with administration and others at the program level to provide
graduate students with a high-quality residential experience
ensuring a high level of student support and service. This
administrator must provide outreach and support to the graduate
student community.
Reports To:
Assistant Director for Graduate & Off-Campus Living
Community Development
Develop, implement, and run monthly new tenant orientation,
responsibility, and involvement seminars
Promote, coordinate, and help to reinforce through inspection the
Extended Family Policy
Advises/counsels individuals and groups of students on personal,
residential living and other matters. Makes referrals to other
areas of the University when appropriate.
Supervision
Supervises a Graduate Community Assistant staff. Responsibilities
include team building, goal and expectation setting, training and
development, advising, staff meetings, formal and informal
evaluation, and other personnel activities.
Presents a comprehensive student development program for the
graduate residential areas (Goler House, University Park, and
Whipple Park) aimed at creation of productive residential
communities. Includes social, educational, cultural and
recreational programs; student government advising and leadership
development programs; emergency response procedures; counseling,
advising, and referral mechanisms; intervention, mediation ad
adjudication programs, etc.
Insures staff and resident are aware of the rules and
responsibilities for residents of the housing system. Assists
students in developing behavioral standards appropriate to group
living in an academic institution. Confronts individuals and groups
whose behavior is unacceptable and initiates appropriate students
conduct action.
Administers the damage billing processes for the living area.
Publishes notifications to students regarding community damages,
vandalism and accountability. Responds to questions and concerns
from students and parents. Liaison with the Bursar and property
managers on matters related to damage billing.
Coordinates the summer programming operations for the graduate
areas.
Assists in regular inspections of the residence are to insure that
appropriate facilities and cleanliness standards are being
maintained.
Assures area facilities comply with all applicable fire, health and
safety regulations. Coordinates with appropriate departments for
fire, health and safety inspections. Follow-ups on all health,
safety, and security reports to insure problems have been
corrected.
Maintains communication with Residential Life and with other
departments important to Residential Life's successful operation
(Public Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Dean of Student's
Office, Dining Services, Facilities, Maintenance, etc.) Significant
liaison role with mechanical and trades staff.
Administrative
Teaching - Opportunities may arise for presenting, instruction, and
seminar based learning initiatives for graduate and undergraduate
living communities.
Emergency On-Call Duty - Participate in a duty rotation being the
first line of contact for any emergencies, crisis, or important
issues that arise.
Participates in committee, research and special project work
related to student development, and effective management and
delivery of programs and services. This includes work within
Residential Life, The College, and may include other areas of the
University.

Strong computer literacy skills with the Microsoft Office: Word,
Excel, and PowerPoint.
Abilities:
Ability to interact effectively as either a leader or as a member
of a team and work collaboratively with other departments.
Ability to listen to customers (e.g. students, staff, etc.) and to
understand and respond positively to their requests.
Ability to adapt to changing assignments and multiple
priorities.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and successfully meet
deadlines.
Candidates must be available to work evenings and occasional
weekends.
This is a live-in position.
