Job Description:

The Windows / Cloud Engineer position manages an environment of servers, on premises and cloud based, providing on-call 24x7x365 support, and some weekend work. Windows-based OS specific duties include responsibility for knowledge of Windows Operating System using Microsoft Active Directory across multiple locations; installation, maintenance and administration of multiple virtual servers (Nutanix, VMware and Cloud); maintenance of a Citrix server environment and/or Messaging platforms (Exchange On-Line). Responsible for configuration and administration of cloud-based workload and creating and maintaining automation scripts and workflows. Essential Responsibilities/Accountabilities: All Levels: Level I: Maintains a basic level of knowledge of Microsoft Windows Operating System, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and appropriate peripherals. Provides 24x7 overall Operations/Deployment/Problem support for the Microsoft Windows Operating System, Citrix, Exchange On-Line environments. Familiarity with virtualization and cloud platforms. Familiarity with Microsoft Azure and or AWS. Familiarity with Nutanix, VMware and or KVM. Familiarity with automation using playbooks and scripting languages such as Ansible, Python and Power Shell. Provides overall basic operations support for the Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization (Nutanix, Cloud Based, VMware) environments through daily/weekly/monthly/annually defined maintenance activities. Provides basic problem determination and resolution for the Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization environments from both monitoring systems and escalated help desk tickets. Provides basic oversight of the activities of Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization environments throughout the regions. Confers with management levels to define scope, objectives and overall need of the sites. Provides and reviews recurring informational reports on Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization usage, performance, and capacity metrics. Provides basic Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization support for internal and external projects. Provides basic deployment function for Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization environments. Acts as primary contact for the coordination and testing of Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization environments. Provides clear and accurate documentation of procedures, problem resolutions and changes. Works closely with vendors, consultants and other outside professionals regarding Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization environments. Provides overall intermediate operations support for the Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud environments through daily/weekly/monthly/annually defined maintenance activities. Provides intermediate problem determination and resolution on the Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud environments from both monitoring systems and escalated help desk tickets. Provides intermediate oversight of the activities of Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud environments throughout the regions. Confers with management levels to define scope, objectives and overall need of the sites. Provides and reviews recurring informational reports on Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud performance and capacity metrics and makes recommendations to address tactical and strategic challenges. Provides intermediate Windows, Citrix, Exchange -On-Line and Virtualization / Could support for internal and external projects. Works closely with IPM Engineering to ensure that project designs are adequate for production processing (jointly). Provides intermediate level of deployment functions for the Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud environment. Works closely with vendors, consultants and other outside professionals regarding Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud technologies. Provides technical assistance and guidance to less experienced engineers Coordinates deployment and operation of Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud systems. Introduces small scale process improvement and documentation currency consistently to ensure accurate management of the overall computing and application environment. Leads smaller size internal projects as directed by Management Works with all areas to determine the appropriate business need as it relates to interfacing internal/external Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud requirements to our systems. Level III (in addition to Level II essential responsibilities/accountabilities): Maintains an advanced level of knowledge on Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud technologies appropriate to Excellus. Provides overall advanced operations support for the Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud environments through daily/weekly/monthly/annually defined maintenance activities. Provides advanced problem determination and resolution on the Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud environments from both monitoring systems and escalated help desk tickets. Provides advanced support of the activities of Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud environments throughout the regions. Confers with management levels to define scope, objectives and overall need of the sites. Provides advanced Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud support for internal and external projects. Works closely with IPM Engineering to develop project designs that are adequate for production processing (jointly). Works closely with IPM Engineering to develop proposals and evaluates Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud systems and makes recommendations of those services (jointly). Provides advanced level of deployment functions for the Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud environments. Monitors and reviews contractual agreements, including long and short term planning strategies. Develops organizational standards for Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud system design, utilization and vendor support. Recommends and leads large scale process improvements to the overall Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud Methodology Leads medium to larger projects as directed by management Defines scope, objectives and needs for new or revised documentation of existing Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud installations. Develops standard operating procedures (SOPs) as they relate to the support of Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud systems. Provides direction and oversees Intern/Contract/Temp help/Level I &II staff, as needed. Develops expertise in a Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud technology discipline and acts as a company SME in that area. Level IV (in addition to Level III essential responsibilities/accountabilities): Senior Level Member from an overall Technology perspective at Excellus SME in multiple areas as it relates to Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud and associated technologies Ability to perform all tasks and activities relating to Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud monitoring, operations, installation, and maintenance for local and remote locations Serves as technical lead, providing a resource of strong expertise for the resolution of complex Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud problems, and in the research, design, planning, and implementation of solutions. Works to train others as required. Level V (in addition to Level IV essential responsibilities/accountabilities): Acts as the Subject Matter Expert across a broad range of Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization / Cloud technologies and integration with other technologies as a whole, both internally (Health Plan) and externally (Industry) as a whole. Minimum Qualifications: NOTE: - We include multiple levels of classification differentiated by demonstrated knowledge, skills, and the ability to manage increasingly independent and/or complex assignments, broader responsibility, additional decision making, and in some cases, becoming a resource to others. All Levels: Level I: Bachelor's degree in IT-related discipline (Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent) or four years of related work experience in lieu of bachelors. Related work experience (i.e. co-ops/internships) preferred. Strong analytical abilities. Must possess a high degree of professionalism and display excellent oral and written communications skills. Ability to exercise good judgment, work independently and maintain a high degree of professionalism is essential. Requires high degree of technical expertise. Working knowledge of: Server hardware: Nutanix Servers, HP Servers. Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows Virtualization Engines: AHV, VMware, KVM, Hyper-V, and Cloud Providers Software: Active Directory, Citrix, Microsoft Cluster Services, IIS, Antivirus, Patch Management, Exchange On-Line Knowledge of Windows in a server environment and in interaction Red Hat Enterprise Linux and AIX is desirable. Ability to respond quickly to issues facing high availability, high demand, enterprise wide services a must. Willingness to work irregular hours and be on pager coverage. Windows, Nutanix and/or VMware certification desired. Level II (in addition to Level I minimum qualifications): Three years of related work experience. Demonstrated technical expertise in system hardware and cloud design is essential. Continuing education via network and project management courses, seminars and certifications. Understanding of SQL in a Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization Cloud environment is highly desirable. Level III (in addition to Level II minimum qualifications): Five years of related work experience. Ability to interface with all levels of management, other plans and outside professionals. Extensive knowledge of distributed systems and cloud design. Experience with Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization based operations system. Ability to successfully handle the completion of multiple concurrent assignments or related support mechanisms for escalation/resolution purposes. - Understanding of cluster configurations and concepts Performance tuning. - Advanced Skill level in Active Directory. - Advanced Skill level in Enterprise backup solutions (Commvault). - Experience with Software based clustering. - Experience with Security hardening and event monitoring. - Advanced enterprise level skills in shell scripting and programming. Level IV (in addition to Level III minimum qualifications): Eight years of related work experience. Seen as a senior level member from an overall Technology perspective at Excellus. Possesses extensive knowledge of technologies outside of core Windows, Citrix, Exchange On-Line and Virtualization discipline. Project management/coordination experience helpful. Level V (in addition to Level IV minimum qualifications): Eleven years of related work experience.
