About the Role:

The Leave Specialist is responsible for the day to administration of all leaves of absence, including FMLA, supplemental and statutory Short & Long Term Disability, and coordinating FMLA with Workers' Compensation absences. The Leave Specialist will also be responsible for initiating life insurance claims and acting as the first point of contact for teammates and insurers on these matters.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

- Respond to inquiries from corporate and field personnel regarding eligibility and benefit issues associated with all leaves of absence types.

- Work closely with insurer to provide accurate demographic data and employment records.

- Maintain day-to-day tracking of teammates who are absent from work for longer than 1 week for personal or medical reasons as opposed to work-related injuries.

- Work closely with Risk Management Team to track Workers' Compensation related absences with FMLA administrator and within HRIS system.

- Track leave durations and work closely with HR Business Partners to manage expectations around returns to work and FMLA protection obligations.

- Ensure accurate record keeping within HRIS system for teammates out on leave.

- Work with Benefit Supervisor to review and opine on restriction accommodation requests; liaison with HR Business Partners and field managers to balance business needs and job descriptions with teammate's medical needs.

- Prepare and track Restriction Accommodation Agreements as needed.

- Assist the benefits team with special projects, as assigned, including but not limited to annual enrollment activities and carrier management opportunities.

+ Must have an operating knowledge of processes and procedures under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), including experience with investigations, job evaluations and accommodations.

Minimum Qualifications:

+ Associates Degree in business, human resources, law or a related field with at least 1 year of related HR experience; OR three or more years of direct experience with leave of absence management.

- Proficient with various computer hardware and software to include, but not limited to, the Microsoft Office Suite of offerings and database management.

+ Sufficient understanding of federal and state laws concerning employee rights and employer obligations around leave of absence management.

+ Sufficient knowledge of research techniques to be able to find and review relevant resources related to specific state leave of absence management obligations.

+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including exceptional phone etiquette and interpersonal skills.

+ Excellent organization and time management skills and the ability to prioritize work load.

+ Ability to gather, disseminate and present information in a logical and professional manner.

+ Ability to understand and maintain confidentiality.

+ Ability to think through problems - interpreting policies, plan documents and relevant statutes to resolve issues but knowing when to escalate as necessary.

+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

+ Ability to be comfortable with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.

+ Must be a motivated self-starter with the ability to see the big picture and suggest process improvements to promote efficiency.
