Job Summary:
The individual will perform Receiving Inspection, In-process
Inspection, Final and other Inspections of mechanical components,
opto-mechanical assemblies and tooling. The individual will be the
primary programmer and user of a Zeiss CMM and other
inspection/test equipment. The individual will be expected to train
and assist others in the use and programming of the CMM and other
inspection / test equipment. The individual will also participate
in the calibration of RPO equipment
Summary of Essential Job Duties:
Supervise a team of Q uality Optical Inspectors and train them on
the latest product standards .
Create an environment of open communication that fosters upward
feedback and suggestions.
Oversees and monitors the inspection and testing of materials,
parts, and products to ensure adherence to established quality
standards.
Establishes inspection protocols, defines sampling procedures, and
determines equipment and mechanisms to be used in the testing
process.
Responsible for complete inspection of mechanical
components/assemblies and tools (incoming, in-process and finished)
to customer, RPO and other drawings, standards, specifications and
quality plans.
Perform Special Inspections: Responsible for complete and sample
inspection of mechanical components/assemblies and tools to
customer, RPO and other drawings, standards, specifications, and
quality / qualification / engineering plans as related to First
Article Inspections and Quality, Engineering, Manufacturing and
Customer prototypes, qualifications, tests and experiments.
Responsible for participation in product and process audits to
evaluate their compliance to all applicable specifications,
standards, instructions, and policies.
Responsible for training in a clear, concise, and effective manner
other personnel on the use of all inspection and test equipment
including follow-up to ensure personnel understand and can
effectively apply the provided training.
General:
Expected to clearly and concisely report accurate and meaningful
results to appropriate team members and to complete logs, reports
and other data entry and analysis as dictated by procedures,
policies, instructions and as indicated by management
personnel.
Expected to provide input to quality planning activities.
Expected to provide input to continuously improve our products and
processes.
Additional Requirements:
Expected to understand gage system errors and select and use
appropriate equipment and techniques to provide actionable
results.
Expected to review and understand product documentation such as
inspection reports, flow charts, job travelers, material
certifications and analysis reports, special processing data and
reports and First Article Inspections packages, etc. to ensure
adequacy to all applicable standards.
Competent use of hand measuring tools such as micrometers,
calipers, radius gages, gage blocks, etc.
Competent performance of open plate layout using surface plates,
drop gages, heights gages, etc.
Competent application and interpretation of GD&T preferred.
Competent use and programming of B&S Gage 2000 CMM a plus.
Competent ability to understand certification, data, test,
inspection, analysis, etc. reports for mechanical components and
assemblies.
Experience using statistical / quality / calibration software a
plus.
Experience with plating, painting, coating and other special
processes a plus.
Ability to effectively train others in the use and programming of
inspection and test equipment.
Ability to effectively communicate with coworkers, suppliers,
customers and management.
Ability to create effective, clear and concise inspection, data and
analysis reports.
Ability to multi-task, remain organized and effectively manage time
to ensure timely completion of assigned tasks.
Proficient math skills required.
Must be a US citizen or Permanent Resident
Requirements and Competencies:
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents. Ability
to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints.
Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations
to management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts.
Educational Requirements:
High School diploma. AAS or AS preferred.
Equivalent combination of education/experience is required
Experience (minimum 3 years) in metals and plastics manufacturing
preferred.
Experience in optics manufacturing a plus.
Additional Requirements:

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
required to stand: use hands to fingers, handle or feel: and reach
with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand,
walk, stoop, kneel, crouch: and talk and hear.
The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and
ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified
inspection (eye strain)
Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger
dexterity, including ability to grasp.
The employee is frequently required to use the computer.
Work Environment:
May involve the use of oils and solvents.
Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions.
(Lab Coats provided)
Generally works in a clean environment and works to maintain the
environment as such.
Safety Glasses are required
May require area specific safety training
This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level
in the work environment is usually loud.
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and
fumes or airborne paper particles.
