Job Description:

SUMMARY The OSP Communications Laborer is responsible for working with your hands and assisting directly and indirectly Operators, Lineman, and Splicers. Laborers jobs include assisting in the placing, rearranging and removing poles, conduit, cable lines, open wire, drops, inside wire, and block wire. You'll work with cables and conduit to perform maintenance on outside plant equipment. As a Laborer, you'll install lines and cables (including fiber, coax, and copper) using construction equipment to dig holes and bury cables. Most often, you'll work outside as part of a team performing installation, maintenance and repair on facilities that start from outside the Central Office (CO) and stop at the terminal or at a customer's building.

      • Ability stand, walk, crawl, and work in all environments, on ladders, in attic spaces, on ceilings, in tunnels, on poles, and in trenches to access various installation and construction points as required
      • Pull fiber/copper/coax cable through existing duct package, pull cable through conduit either manually, blowing, or mechanically
      • Fill out paperwork as required by lead.
      • Flexibility to work across all divisions (underground, aerial, buried, fiber, copper, coax)
      • Willing to work outside in varying weather conditions
      • Performs other duties as requested by crew leader
      • Lay cable, conduit and fiber innerduct
      • Keep detailed record of work activity
      • Unreel, pull and string wire and cable from pole to pole
      • Install poles and place wires or cables
      • Work with hand tools
        • Class A Commercial Drivers License
        • Valid Driver's License

        • Must be able to work nights and weekends

          • High school diploma or equivalent, technical or college degree preferred
            • Able to read, write, and speak English

              • Work shifts longer than eight hours in duration
              • Push or pull heavy objects into position and apply muscular force quickly to objects and equipment
              • Distinguish between colors
              • Work in a noisy environment
