As a Senior Scientist, CBID Cytometry working on the Clinical Biomarkers team, you will be empowered to serve as the CBID resident cytometry workflow and assay expert, whose role includes: advising translational scientists on best practices and biomarker assays/technologies. A typical day will include: POSITION OBJECTIVES: Serve as the CBID resident cytometry workflow and assay expert, whose role includes: advising translational scientists on best practices and biomarker assays/technologies, as well as, investigating novel technologies for clinical readiness and implementing as necessary. Contribute to the clinical development of novel therapeutics in Gastroenterology, Neuroscience, and Rare Disease that are currently in Phase I-Phase III clinical trials by developing traditional cytometry-based assays and novel technologies with external CROs. Establish methodologies for routine analysis as well as advanced machine-based learning algorithms. POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES: As CBID cytometry subject matter expert, attend and participate in key program team meetings (e.g. clinical and translational subteams) and provide insight and support for flow cytometry, CyToF, spectral flow cytometry, cell sorting, and other cytometry-based assays. You should be familiar with cytometry work flows from sample prep through to data generation and analysis. Evaluate, select, and oversee external labs and vendors to ensure successful design and execution of clinical assays, including: validation, longitudinal performance, data quality, and timely delivery. Analyze and interpret clinical cyometry-based biomarker data. Develop and present biomarker results to CBID leadership team and program/clinical teams. Collaborate with biomarker scientists to design experiments which leverage cytometry data to support clinical drug development. Collaborate with individuals from other functions, e.g. computational biology, translational sciences, and modeling to further analyze and interpret data, especially in context with other clinical data. Lead development of innovative approaches to new assays based on emerging scientific insights, new technologies and/or program needs. Other responsibilities include being current and leading scientific due diligence of cutting-edge technologies, establishing external partnerships as needed, building external bridges (e.g. scientific leaders, KOLs, academic partners, CROs, and health authorities), mentoring other scientists, and actively publishing/presenting in the external scientific community. Success in this role will be evaluated by the ability to influence and inspire scientists in the organization, and to maintain a culture that encourages innovation, scientific rigor, and collaboration. EDUCATION, BEHAVIORAL COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS: A PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in immunology, molecular biology, or related discipline with at least 5 years of relevant experience beyond post-doctoral training, including at least 2 years of industry experience. Strong scientific background and experience with assay development and validation across technology platforms in cytometry, especially those that are clinically amenable. Strong understanding of and experience in cytometry technologies and workflows. Experience with advanced analysis tools such as deep learning algorithms or AI and/or other technologies such as pathology/histology, genomics, etc a plus. Disease knowledge and experience in gastroenterology, rare disease, or neuroscience a plus. Experience with outsourcing and working with external partners to develop/transfer assays and to oversee data generation/analysis and delivery of high quality data within expected timelines. Familiarity with clinical documents and processes, i.e. clinical protocols, informed consent forms, laboratory manuals, central lab logistics, etc. Strong written and oral communication skills, ability to influence and inspire, takes initiative yet team-oriented and collaborative, and able to navigate and be effective in large matrixed environments. Prior leadership and mentoring experience a plus.
