Job Description:

Position Purpose:To oversee and manage a group of child care staff in order to coordinate the programming of several related classrooms. The classroom coordinator's primary purpose is to mentor and lead classroom staff within the classroom setting to offer high quality early care and education. The classroom coordinator must also develop and nurture relationships with children and families.Essential Job Responsibilities:* Supervise classroom staff and give direction and feedback when necessary. Act as the primary trainer regarding recognized quality Early Care and Education practices.* Fill in when classroom staff call in sick or have days off to maintain ratios.* Maintain employee folders so all appropriate paperwork is complete and up to date including physicals, training hours, and all paperwork required by OCFS, National Accreditation and Generations.* Offer feedback and direction to Lead Teachers relating to Classroom/Program Management and Child/Family Interactions.* Ensure that the lesson plans are being carried out and feedback/evaluation of the lesson plan is given on a weekly basis.* Hold staff meetings for the Lead and Assistant Teachers.* Evaluate, advise and complete goal setting (professional and educational) with classroom staff at 3 months, one year and annually there after. Consider comments from the Site Director when completing the evaluation. Make recommendations to the Human Resource Manager on appropriate compensation.* Coordinate communication between the Leadership team and center staff when needed.* Participate in a yearly program evaluation.* Communicate with families on an ongoing basis to ensure relevant information on every child is shared.* Coordinate the scheduling of parent conferences bi-annually to share child development information. Encourage partnership with families to best serve the children.* Maintain confidentiality when discussing issues relating to any child.* Communicate with potential families on tours to offer information specific to the classrooms that you are assigned to.* Ensure child assessment plan is completed by Lead Teachers bi-annually. Records are kept in children's confidential files.* Ensure that the children's portfolios are being kept according to national accreditation criteria.* Visit classrooms regularly to ensure that children's needs are met and programming results in content, well developing to children.National Accreditation:* Become familiar with national accreditation criteria. Ensure criteria is infused in all classroom operations and decisions at the center. Educate and mentor staff on appropriate practices.* Assist Program Director with all necessary paperwork and action needed to achieve or maintain National Accreditation.* Communicate national accreditation philosophies to staff and parents as a key influence in the curriculum and program offered.Professional Development:* Participate in at least 30 hours of job appropriate training per year.* Attend at least one local or regional conference per year.* Stay current with Generations policies, OCFS regulations, national accreditation criteria and other pertinent regulations (CACFP, Health Department, etc.).* Conduct training on specified topics as assigned at Generations Mini Conference or other community eventOther Job Responsibilities:* Make sure the classrooms are clean, neat, organized and inviting for children and families.* Participate and communicate with the Human Resource Department in the selection process of candidates* Operate as a Model Teacher for potential employees. Be prepared to discuss expectations of job/profession.* Opening and closing of the center as assigned.* Responsible for center operations when Director is absentCommunication:* Daily in person contact with families, staff, peers and administration to exchange information related to operation of child care program.* Written correspondence to share information, communicate policies or offer guidance.* Telephone or electronic communication with families, peers or administration to discuss needs of the program and resolve any problems.PM21Qualifications:Education: A minimum of an Associates degree in Early Childhood or related field or substantial years of experience in center based child care preferred. Ongoing professional development required.Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of early childhood programming. Working knowledge of the community needs and resources. Working knowledge of the regulatory environment including National Accreditation CriteriaExperience: A minimum 2 years of supervision and program experience.Skills: Strong leadership and organizational skills. Oral and written communication skills. Diplomacy and human relations skills needed. Model behaviors that support the overall philosophy and design of the organization. Strong aptitude for directing and motivating people. Flexible to varied assignments and willingness to take direction from others.
