Learn more at harris.com Job Description: The Embedded Software Engineer with be responsible for research, design, and development of real-time embedded GPP software for next generation radio products, in conjunction with hardware product development. Requires the application of the principles and techniques of computer engineering, software engineering, electrical engineering, and mathematical analysis to daily tasking Analyze requirements to determine feasibility of design within time and cost constraints Ability to develop and analyze design tradeoffs against scope, cost, and schedule constraints Consult with electrical engineers and other engineering staff to evaluate interface between hardware and software/firmware, and operational performance requirements of the overall system Experience with mentoring of engineers Develop and conduct software system testing procedures, programming, and documentation Design, implement, test, and maintain embedded software for real-time control of advanced tactical radio equipment Provide technical support to internal and external customers including factory software introduction support and manufacturing issue resolution Execution of software development process in a CMMI Level 3 environment Perform coding and unit test of resultant software/firmware Perform software/firmware component integration Participate in and lead peer reviews Identifying, tracking and repairing defects Qualifications: BSEE, BSCS, BSCE required with a minimum of 3 years software engineering industry experience. Experience with: Object-Oriented Design (OOD) and C++ embedded programming. Experience with IP Networking, Wireless Networking, networking protocols and/or Ethernet switching. Preferred Additional Skills: Experience with software emulators/debuggers, multi-threaded design, embedded real-time operating systems, flash file systems, and XML. Experience with wireless communications systems is highly preferred Experience with board support package and driver development Strong proficiency with C and CORBA Familiarity with real-time operating systems, such as QNX or Linux Experience with design and implementation of time-critical software applications Ability to analyze and modify existing software to add new capabilities. Ability to work effectively in a team environment; good interpersonal and communication skills Creativity in problem solving Understands basic principles and technical concepts; position provides opportunities to apply theory to practice Please be aware that many of our positions require a security clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
