Job Description Job Description Position Summary The Nurse
Practitioner (NP) OR Registered Nurse (RNFA) must be certified as a
RNFA with a minimum of 2-years of experience. Only candidates with
this certification will be considered for the position. This role
exemplifies the attributes of a Lindsay House Surgery Center nurse
and reflects the mission, vision, and values of the center. Adheres
to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance
Program, complies with all relevant policies, procedures,
guidelines and all other regulatory and AAACH accreditation
standards. The NP or RNFA is a registered professional nurse who
has completed an approved RNFA course and functions as a first
assistant during surgical procedures in order to assist the
surgeon. The NP/RNFA is directly supervised by the surgeon and
performs functions specifically identified and consistent with
training received. Works in collaboration with the surgeon and
health care team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. Practices at
the direction of the surgeon and does not concurrently function as
a scrub person. Duties and Responsibilities Demonstrates clinical
expertise and in-depth knowledge in direct patient care activities
Integrates theoretical knowledge base and clinical expertise in
decision making Recognizes safety hazards and initiates appropriate
corrective action Performs preoperative patient assessment and
teaching as required Applies principles of asepsis and infection
control in a skillful manner Applies knowledge of surgical anatomy,
physiology and operative technique relative to operative procedures
Performs positioning, prepping and draping of the patient including
placement of urinary drainage catheter Provides homeostasis by
coagulating bleeding points, ligating vessels, handling and/or
cutting tissue and by other means as directed by the surgeon
Provides exposure through appropriate use of instruments,
retractors, suctioning and sponging techniques Performs wound
closure as directed by the surgeon; sutures the subcutaneous tissue
and skin Duties and Responsibilities (continued) Applies surgical
dressings and garments Assists with transfer of the patient from
the operating room Assist with room turnover Practices within
limitations of preparation and experience Will function in the
scrub / circulator role when RNFA role is not needed Physical
ability to lift, push, pull and move at least 35 pounds Maintains
RNFA | CNOR certification Maintains competency consistent with
AORN's competency statements Demonstrates the following
professional attributes: Exemplifies a professional image in
appearance, manner and presentation Advocate for patients and their
significant key others, co-workers, the community and the nursing
profession Consistently demonstrates accountability Serves as
subject matter expert | resource for OR staff members Participates
in formal and informal education of nursing and non-nursing

practice and education of others Demonstrates effective

Collaborates with management in problem solving and decision making
Serves as a role model for "Patients First" Patient care | age
specific responsibilities and qualifications for young adults 17
and older Participates in departmental quality monitoring program
Incorporates/recommends changes into practice Qualifications
Required: NP Licensure from accredited school of nursing, BSN
preferred CNOR Certification RNFA Certification CPR | HCP ACLS
Minimum 2 years as an RNFA specializing in plastic surgery required
Schedule The per-diem NP or RNFA will be scheduled 1-2 days per
month, as needed. The Surgery Center is open Monday - Friday.
