Position Summary:The -Nursing Shift Supervisor is a Nursing Leader who serves as a resource for problem solving, provides clinical expertise, facilitates staff mentoring and coaching, facilitates patient flow during the off shifts (typically, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays)Key Responsibilities:---Provides on site management of the hospital or long term care during the off shift, normally when hospital or long term care management is not on site---Manages the delivery of patient care and manages any issues that arise---Manages occurrences during the shift ensuring appropriate documentation---Facilitates professional collaboration with all staff and providers---Assists staff in clinical problem solving---Rounds on patients and families with concerns or complaints---Rounds on admitted patients in the Emergency Department---Mentors and coaches staff in clinical and behavioral events---Facilitates patient flow by assisting staff in decision making---Collaborates with staff to provide considerate care that respects patient's personal values, beliefs, taking spiritual and cultural needs into account---Supports patients and families participation in making informed decisions---Reinforces Patients Rights, Collaborates with staff to assess patient's physical, psychological, and social status needs---Reinforces policies and procedures---Prioritizes multiple emergent situations---Responds to codes---Facilitates quality care through knowledge of and reinforcement with the staff, pertinent to regulatory issues---Role models excellent communication by keeping Managers and Directors informed---Seeks assistance appropriately from Directors of Nursing and/or Administrator on Call---Interfaces with all departments during the off shifts and communicates with the appropriate leader in a timely collegial manner---Functions as an inter and intra departmental liaison to enhance optimal patient care---Maintains a safe environment for patients, visitors, staff, physicians---Collaborates with staff to identify safety risks and takes appropriate action---Acts as patient and staff advocate in Infection Control---Allocates and reallocates human resources appropriately---Maintains staffing patterns---Ensures safe staffing with appropriate skill mix for all units for the current and on-coming shift; implements actions to address staffing needs for those shifts---Provides guidance to unit staff in all matters related to resource availability, staffing, flexing, and floating staff---Assigns coverage of Close Observation Technicians/Shift Based Floats---Demonstrates fiscal responsibility---Maintains all mandatory educational requirements---Attends Off Shift Director meetings regularly attends Leadership Development Institutes---Participates in professional organizations and/or health related activities in the communityMinimum Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree preferred; Associate's Degree in Nursing required.Required Licensure/Certification Skills:---Current New York State Registered Nurse License---Effective 1/1/2014, BLS required for all new candidates prior to hire---BLS required for all internal team members by 12/31/2014*Candidate must be open to working varied shifts to accommodate hospital needs*Rochester -Regional -Health System is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer.
