Job Description:

Job DescriptionJob Summary:Responsible for registering all patients pending for procedures. Insures that cases are scheduled according to guidelines. Also insures that procedures are scheduled efficiently, and according to anesthesia requirements and timeliness. Alerts billing personnel of possible issues of non-coverage, copay requirements, etc. Assists in insuring proper surgical equipment is requested. PRINCIPAL DUTIES:1. Scheduling Patients: Registers all patients pending procedures by obtaining demographic and insurance information from the office of the physician/surgeon performing the procedure. Also appropriate information is entered into software. Maintains a hard copy of the schedule in case of computer failure. Exercises judgment to assure resources are used appropriately and efficiently. Ensures that surgeries are placed on schedule in proper order. Sends finalized schedules to offices.2. Verifies Insurance Information and Obtains Referrals: Checks anticipated CPT codes to be performed for coverage. Communicates to billing personnel when a potential coverage problem exists.3. Disseminates Pre-operative Information: Refers necessary information to pre-operative nurses (consents and add-ons).4. Insurance Verification: Performs insurance verification for add-on cases. Communicates as necessary with billing personnel.5. Other Duties: Emails Medical Director with schedules for the next 2 weeks, daily Distributes schedules to Anesthesia Associates and Executive Director daily Emails Anesthesia Associates billing dept., facesheets for the next day. Distributes brochure to offices All other duties as assigned. SUPERVISION EXERCISED:N/AQUALIFICATIONS:Education:

  • High School graduate required, AAS degree in Medical Secretarial Science preferredMental:
  • Emotional stability and organizational skills necessary to meet the demands of a stressful environment.
  • Good interpersonal skills to interact appropriately with patients, peers, physicians and owners.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information.Physical:
  • Audio visual acuity and physical dexterity required.
  • Must be able to work long periods of time in sitting positionExperience:
  • Minimum of two years experience in a medical office environment
  • Minimum of one year experience in surgical scheduling
  • Data entry and Word Processing experience required
