L3Harris' Communication Systems segment is currently seeking a
Associate Manager to join our Systems Engineering Platform
Integration team. This position will be based at our Rochester, NY
facility.
Position Overview:
Manage and lead a multidisciplinary engineering team tasked with
the analysis and design of tactical radio based communication
systems. Team responsibilities include support and execution of
initial concept formation, formal technical proposals and program
engineering deliverables such as requirements, design
documentation, prototypes, test and installation. Implementation of
communication systems with a focus on integration of L3Harris
products and OEM equipment into a variety of military and
commercial platforms; armored military and civil vehicles,
shelters, shipboard & small boat, fixed site & tower, fixed-wing,
rotary and unmanned aircraft systems.
The candidate will need to work collaboratively across the
engineering organization as well as with other Communications
Systems sectors to focus on the development of unique and novel
solutions, adhering to all aspects of System Engineering process
compliance including, but not limited to, process artifact review,
approval, risk management and analysis. Partnering closely with
Business Development and Sales teams, Engineering Project teams and
Engineering Subject Matter Experts to ensure consistent engineering
design rigor, technical strategy, direction, and alignment with the
Segment Strategic Plan.
Essential Responsibilities:
Lead, direct and review the work of direct report(s) to maintain
workflow and productivity and ensure weekly objectives are
achieved.
Provide leadership in the development of technical staff through
strategic hiring, mentoring, and training. Input on promotion,
performance and/or compensation decisions for their team.
Mentor staff through systems engineering tasks including trade
study, requirements management, design review, validation &
verification, install and commissioning.
Expectation and priority management. Assign and allocate staff to
meet business and career development needs while meeting technical
and schedule goals.
Curate and develop team level subject matter expertise on radio
communication systems integration on current and next generation
platforms and adjacent technologies.
Establish strategic working relationships with engineering project
managers as well as functional teams and technical leads.
Collaborate with other design teams, test, manufacturing, product
service, program and product management, and external
customers.
Participte in technical briefings, design reviews and documentation
reives per standard development processes. Prepare for and
participate in technical baseline (TBR) reviews.
Assess and report technical project status, risks and issues up
through engineering management.
Domestic and International travel in support of Systems programs
and proposals to be expected approximately 20-40%
Required Qualifications:

Ability to partner with stake holders and team leaders to identify
needs and develop marketable Tactical Communication System
solutions which provide customer value.
Working knowledge of miltiary asset use cases, maneauvors, command
structures, and signals doctrine. Experience participating in and
supporting exercises on military installations, interacting with
enlisted and officer personnel.
Direct customer and end-user interaction, proven and effective
communications skills, interpersonal skills and customer focus are
a must.
Proficiency with engineering and productivity tools such as
AutoCAD, Visio, and MS Office Suite.
Experience with L3Harris radio systems, HF, VHF, UHF and SATCOM
modes and waveforms, performance characteristics and
programming.
Systems proposal experience to including creation of engineering
NRE service and RE materials estimates and subcontractor statements
of work (SoW).
Ability to obtain a US DoD Secret Clearance
Experience in management and supervision of junior level engineers.
Tasking, auditing and constructive feedback skills.
Understanding of Tactical Radio Communications, including RF
propagation, frequency planning/spectrum management, antenna and
system component selection and trade studies.
Understanding of mechanical systems and design constraints for
rugged military applications. Familiarity with concepts and
standards related to MIL-STD-810G/901D, shock and vibe, and
environmental requirements.
Understanding of AC and DC electrical system design, components and
specification for use in rugged military platforms. Familiarity
with concepts and standards such as MIL-STD-1275D, transient
protection and electrical safety (NFPA 70, ANSI, ISO standards)
Active US DoD Secret Clearance a plus.
