Job Summary:
Manage all aspects of workload for area of responsibility, this
includes but is not limited to resources, tools, equipment,
supplies and employees to meet or exceed schedule requirements.
Work with QA to define quality requirements and ensure employees
follow all defined requirements and record all required data for
each job. Work closely with ME and QA to develop, maintain, train
and enforce efficient well thought out processes. Work closely with
planning to regularly review and ensure the accuracy of MRP's time
standards, scrap factors, process steps and recorded quantities for
all jobs assigned to area of responsibility. Review delivery
schedule, prints, process documentation and test requirements to
develop and staff a build plan. Supply Sales with timely and
thoroughly reviewed staff, tooling, equipment and cycle time
requirements for quotes on new and repeat jobs. Work with
Operations Management and peers to identify, develop and implement
methods for reducing waste while improving throughput and
communication. Manage staff for area of responsibility providing
regular feedback and reviews and establish development plans.
Ensure employee issues and concerns addressed and foster an open
and welcoming work environment.
Job Responsibilities
Core Job Duties:
Act as source for technical knowledge related to your area of
responsibility.
Have full understanding of the capabilities of your department's
equipment and staff.
Manage department production capacity and layout, evaluate staffing
levels and coordinate adjustments hiring or transfers with manager
accordingly
Review and approve timesheets and time off requests by required
deadlines, adjust where necessary.
Work with Manager to set, monitor approved OT.
Provide daily and weekly feedback to team both written and
verbal.
Mentor/develop leads, supervisors, and employees to fit the growing
needs of the business
Maintain written documentation on success and issues with employees
including employee reviews
Maintain regular communication with manager providing team status,
concerns or achievements both verbally and through status boards,
IOI's or reports at the established frequency.
Provide clear and prompt feedback to Sales / Engineering on quotes
for new and recurring jobs, detailing all needs and
requirements.
Interact with Engineering to provide feedback and recommendations.
Review prints and clearly communicate challenges and opportunities
for improvement.
Research new equipment and technologies with an eye towards quality
improvement and cost reduction
Lead lean culture and continuous improvement in your area through
space and process rearrangements, building moves or new equipment
integration.
Communicate any information needed to perform job and field
concerns and new ideas.
Maintain plan for manufacturing area based on schedule
requirements, with support from the Planning. Identify any schedule
risks and clearly communicate them to your manager, providing
details on risks and potential solutions.
Actively participate in week-to-week and month-to-month scheduling,
working closely with Planning. Clearly communicate requirements to
your staff.
Lead Manufacturing area in meeting or exceeding schedule
requirements. Provide direction and guidance in day-to-day
scheduling for all equipment and staffing resources in your area of
responsibility.
Work with QA to define quality requirements, provide direction and
support for your team in meeting quality requirements. Regularly
monitor and guide team on meeting quality requirements.
Ensure that data entry is occurring daily at a minimum, and that
all required information is being accurately entered by the staff
in your area of responsibility.
Work with team to resolve issues with current jobs, coordinate
support where required. Clearly communicate issues and current
solutions to manager.
Establish training leads working closely with Leads and
Technicians. Regularly maintain and review any training logs.
Ensure all new staff have an established training plan for their
job requirements.
Identify tooling, fixturing, material or consumable needs required
to deliver jobs on schedule and work closely with Manager,
Purchasing, and Planning to meet required needs.
Work with ME, QE, staff or manager to develop and maintain new /
existing processes, track, and drive quick completion of any
documentation efforts. Guide and monitor any required
retraining.
Follow and lead staff in complying with all company safety
precautions, policies and procedures.

Qualifications, Requirements and Competencies
Educational Requirements:
BS/MS degree or equivalent or minimum of 15 years of experience in
leadership of a production environment related to the department or
equivalent work experience
Significant knowledge of lean manufacturing methodology and its
implementation
Conventional grinding or polishing or CNC operation or programming
background preferred
Minimum Requirements:
Solid knowledge of all aspects, concepts and tools related to the
department and the required disciplines
Proficient at reading interpreting blueprints or drawings for both
mechanical and optical standards
Capability of developing and understanding capacity modeling from
available data
Ability to follow detailed instructions, and properly manage
available time
Proficiency with Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Epicor or
equivalent MRP/ERP
Excellent problem solving and communication skills both written and
verbal
Proficiency with understanding blueprints or drawings for both
mechanical and optical standards
Ability to work in a challenging, fast paced and high-stress
environment
Good mental dexterity and decision making
Analytical troubleshooting / problem solving
Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze and interpret complex documents
Ability to communicate effectively to team members and management
and peers
Additional Requirements:

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
required to stand, reach with hands and arms and to use hands and
fingers to handle, maneuver parts.
The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel,
crouch, talk and hear.
The job may involve prolong periods of sitting/standing.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close
vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and
ability to adjust focus. May involve prolonged periods of magnified
inspection (eye strain)
Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger
dexterity, including ability to grasp.
The employee is frequently required to use the computer.
The job may require regular lifting of up to 50 lbs.
Job requires flexibility in schedule and potential overtime or
weekend work
Work Environment:
May involve the use of oils and solvents.
Subject to some soilage and irritation from cleaning solutions.
(Lab Coats provided)
Generally, works in a clean environment and works to maintain the
environment as such.
Safety Glasses are required
May require area specific safety training
This position works in a manufacturing environment. The noise level
in the work environment is usually loud.
The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and
fumes or airborne particles.
May work at different workstations as needs require
