Position description
The Editorial Director, Children's, for Mayo Clinic Press will be an innovator with deep experience in trade publishing, children's media or the educational market. Must possess:

  • a commitment to improve the physical and mental health and wellness of young people around the world and foster the next generation of scientists and medical professionals;
  • a proven track record of storytelling using STEM/STEAM learning strategies;
  • an extensive network of trusted collaborators to help build a winning children's program from the ground up;
  • a desire to join Mayo Clinic in its $100 million goal to eliminate racism in health care.
    The Editorial Director, Children's, directs assigned team to produce trusted, evidence-based content in text, voice and multimedia formats, in multiple languages to be delivered through digital and print channels to meet business objectives by empowering target audiences to take action. Leads and is responsible for the strategic planning, production and maintenance of sizable content collections and supporting editorial resources. Translates audience and business objectives, and best-available quantitative data (e.g., digital analytics) and qualitative data (e.g., market research), into actionable content strategy(ies) with defined deliverables and supporting operating plans. Responsible for defining and ensuring adherence to established content standards, policies, processes and workflows. Responsible for mid- to long-range content planning. Participates in developing annual expense budget for assigned area, and managing resources to expense targets. Responsible for recruiting, staffing, performance management and ongoing continuous improvement of assigned direct reports. Collaborates with supervisor to continually improve, innovate and evolve all aspects of content development, including staff members, processes and supporting technology. Performs other duties as needed.

    *This position is a 100% remote work.

    Bachelor's degree required in journalism, communications or related field. Must have at least seven years of digital, print or both publishing experience overall and at least seven years management experience with direct supervision of editorial staff. Proven track record for creating and managing evidence-based editorial content published to multiple delivery channels. Must possess knowledge of or experience with all phases of the content lifecycle, from defining content strategy to content creation and curation, to ongoing content maintenance. Proven track record for making strategic and deadline-driven editorial decisions, project management, and for ability to effectively coach assigned staff and thrive in a dynamic, team environment. Demonstrated ability to successfully adapt to change and a culture of innovation.

    Additional qualifications
    Master's degree preferred. Knowledge or experience with content modeling, content auditing, and structuring content for multi-channel delivery (e.g., web, social, mobile, print, voice, commercial syndication, electronic health record) preferred. Background in health- or science-related information or subject matter expertise in health and wellness. Familiarity with standards-based content development practices (e.g., SEO), structured-authoring tools, content delivery practices (e.g., DITA), content metadata, and content translations. Knowledge of or experience with using team-collaboration tools (e.g., Trello, Mural). Experience authoring for personalized experiences. Proficiency in plain language content strategy and development. Experience working in an agile content development environment.

    Compensation Detail
    Required education, experience, and tenure may be considered along with internal equity when job offers are extended. The salary range every 2 weeks is approximately $3854.40-$5396.00 based on a full-time position.
