Summary Under the direction of the Vice President of Nursing, performs a variety of duties and has administrative authority, responsibility and accountability for the provision of patient care delivery in the following departments: Maternity, 3rd Floor, New Wing, Pediatrics, Intensive Care Unit and Nursing Supervision. The Director also has the responsibility for the direction, of the professional practice department at United Memorial Medical Center, including education, quality, nursing standards, regulatory compliance and the responsibility for the nursing policy and procedure approval as delegated by the Chief Nursing Officer. STATUS: Full Time LOCATION: United Memorial Medical Center SCHEDULE: Days ATTRIBUTES * Provides leadership for analyzing and establishing requirements and work processes to achieve effective implementation of the nursing practice and governance structure. * Assists with the development, implementation and achievement of annual operating and capital budgets. * Utilizes Press Ganey to drive continuous improvement in customer satisfaction to ensure optimal achievement of Value Based Purchasing. * Maintains systems for decision making within the governance structure and assures decisions are made at the appropriate level. * Must evaluate and modify goals, objectives and organizational structure to provide the best nursing service. * Fosters and develops a spirit of collaboration and teamwork: maintains effective communication with work groups and individuals. * Participates in ensuring compliance with TJC, DOH, HCFA, OASIS and other regulatory requirement standards specific to nursing practice, standards, competency and nursing quality outcomes. * In conjunction with the CNO, monitors regulatory and licensure issues affecting professional practice and develops proposals to respond to changes in laws and regulations impacting nursing. * Interfaces with community, state and federal agencies as appropriate. * Collaborates with Human Resources to develop year plan for mandatory and unit specific competencies for every level of care provider. * Ensures competency program is in place for new procedures, techniques, equipment and policy changes for patient care providers. * Conducts annual assessment of educational needs of the division and develops annual education plan in collaboration with Nurse Manager and Human Resources. * Maintains collaborative relationships with physicians, and communicates with them regarding current issues. * Attends a variety of meetings, conferences and seminars as required or directed to facilitate continued learning and contemporary thought. * Works on a variety of committees with nursing and interdisciplinary which affect the delivery of patient care in any nursing area, or affects the operation of nursing services in general. * Directs and supervises assigned personnel including evaluations, scheduling, orientation and training. Makes recommendations on employee hire, transfer, promotion, discipline, termination and other personnel problems within position responsibility. * Conducts regular scheduled meetings with staff. * Understands and follows hospital policies and procedures. * Attends Department Specific and Hospital Wide safety education and training programs. * Demonstrates safe work habits and responsibility for safety while interacting with co-workers, patients and others. Responsibilities Education/Training: BSN, MS preferred. Five years of leadership experience. Licensure/Certification: Current RN licensure to practice in the State of New York. Experience/Skills/Abilities: Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in a caring, considerate and concerned manner. Willingness to accept responsibility. Leadership skills essential to the position.
