Learn more at harris.com Job Description: Harris is seeking a talented FPGA Electrical Design Engineer to join our growing business. Our products are often highly complex and innovative, and our teams consist of tech savvy professionals. Our product focus is Military Radios and the RF Power Amplifiers that mate with them. The desired candidate will be expected to perform the following tasks: Perform FPGA Design: Architecture development, algorithm implementation, synthesizable VHDL code generation Understand the requirements, architect a solution targeting an FPGA against those requirements and implement that solution in an FPGA. Thorough understanding of VHDL, the FPGA design process and the tools used to generate the FPGA designs. Thorough understanding of FPGA design process including requirements generation, preliminary design, peer reviews, detailed design, test plan generation, and integration and test. Solid understanding of basic digital logic design concepts (understanding how VHDL code translates into logic primitives within an FPGA); detailed understanding of all of the architectural elements within Xilinx FPGA and Altera FPGA Solid understanding of static timing analysis and the process by which timing closure is achieved in a design Experience integrating with HW/software and supporting the lab integration and complete testing and qualification of the deliverable system Simulate the FPGA to verify performance, then integrate and test the FPGA on the circuit card assembly Perform FPGA Design Verification: Testbench development, scripting, VHDL simulation Perform FPGA Design Implementation: Constraint driven FPGA Synthesis, place and route, static timing analysis, clocking and reset. Qualifications: BS Degree in electrical/computer engineering and 6+ years of professional experience, OR, a Masters in electrical/computer engineering and 4+ years of professional experience Preferred Additional Skills: Ability to work in a team environment and negotiate solutions with Hardware / Software Engineering and Systems Engineering is desired Experience with and understanding of Altera or Xilinx FPGA architectures Work independently in generating the firmware design solutions Excellent troubleshooting skills, organized, detail oriented Adaptable - Must be able to work in team environment of varying disciplines Familiarity with Harris Radios and PA s Experience with control protocols such I2C, SPI, RS-232/422, and SpaceWire. Experience with high speed memory interfaces Experience with high speed serial protocols (Ethernet, USB) Experience with Analog to Digital (AD) and Digital to Analog (DA) interfaces. Self-motivated individual with the ability to work and communicate effectively in a team environment Proficiency with Xilinx, Altera Tool Suites (VHDL, Synthesis, Place and Route, Simulation, Timing Analysis), is desired.
