and Scope: A Senior-Level Mechatronics Applications Engineer (ten
or more years of experience) will provide in-depth mechanical and
electrical concepts, costing, and quote documents for custom
machines based on requirements. The expectation is someone who can
manage the full project load or a team for more extensive, more
involved quotes. Duties & Responsibilities: Quote processes Review
customer specifications to develop cost-effective solutions for
controls and mechanical componentry per application requirements.
Create accurate 2D machine floor plans with supporting 3D models as
required. Put together process diagrams and questions Establish
timing and sequence charts of all motion-based assembly and test
tasks. Complete document review for compliance to customer
specifications and PMD standards Complete a part or system
tolerance analysis. Related to Build-To-Print (BTP) jobs Details
estimating and reviewing with peers / fabrication Keep track of
estimated totals before and after reviewing for comparison
Estimating shop disciplines Assembly / wire & plumb / debug / skid
prep / installation Peer review Other associated processes Attend
concept meetings and ask questions. Prepare detailed estimates of
time, quantities, labor, and material costs required for mechanical
and control design, software development, machine building,
plumbing, equipment installations, and acceptance testing. Review
customer specifications to develop solutions using available
hardware and costing. Review vendor quotes and PMD quotations for
accuracy. Present machine solutions to prospective customers. Keep
inline with global safety procedures. Walk through the assembly
floor with team members when possible. Remote people must select a
project currently in some phase and study the design. Follow all
jobs won through the installation. Attending team meetings,
customer calls, design meetings, etc., when possible. Keep a list
of lessons learned shared with the applications team. Study
available videos of similar machines that might be found. Help to
document & improve processes / Work to update the cost library
Complete a tolerance analysis as required for all projects being
done or assisted with. Guide the design team during the initial
start of the design phase. Establish timing and sequence charts of
all motion-based assembly and test tasks. Travel to the customer's
site to gather project-critical information. Perform peer reviews
of other concepts, costing, and quoting documents. Mentor junior
applications engineers and provide technical leadership.
Requirements: Education and Experience BS degree in Mechatronics or
equivalent experience. Preferred 3.0 or above grade average Minimum
10 years in industry related to automation equipment and / or 8
years of experience quoting automation equipment. Geometric
Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) knowledge and practical
experience. Language Skills Excellent verbal and written
communication skills Ability to read, analyze and interpret general
technical procedures. Ability to write technical reports.
Comfortable in presenting concepts and pricing information in a
clear, concise manner suitable for technical audiences Effective in
listening and note-taking. Characteristics Necessary to Perform the
Job Focused and willing to meet deadlines as required. Travel as
required. Organizational skills – computer file management and

Understanding of new technology. Capable of visualizing concepts
and developing complex mechanical and electrical solutions Driven
to gain knowledge of automation by attending meetings and
observing. Due diligence in costing / explanation to maintain
profit margins on quoted projects. Understand the principles of
DFMA (Design for Manufacturing and Assembly) Proven track record of
leading and managing applications from concept through engineering.
Reasoning Ability The applicant must be able to solve practical
problems and deal with various variables in situations where only
limited information exists. Ability to interpret information
furnished in pictorial, schedule, verbal, or written form Wide
variety of duties requiring ability to work independently, adapting
standard procedures to meet new conditions, and making decisions
guided by precedent. Computer Skills AutoCAD or other 2D SolidWorks
or other 3D products Advanced skills with Microsoft Office Suite of
products Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job,
the employee is regularly required to handle sample products and
tools to aid conceptual planning. Regularly required to stand;
walk; bend, stoop, kneel, push, pull; use hands to handle or feel;
reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and smell. Occasionally
required to sit. Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
unassisted. Specific vision abilities include close vision,
distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception,
and ability to adjust focus. Work environment is primarily
performed indoors around moving mechanical parts at a moderate
noise level. Regularly exposed to risk of electrical shock
Occasionally perform work outdoors in all types of weather. Wear
safety equipment, including proper PPE.
