Job Description:
As a Special Education Teacher, you would design and implement
individualized education while providing direction and supervision
of classroom staff, and communicating with families and agency
personnel. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Sensitivity to
cultural diversity of othersIntegrates therapeutic and educational
needs into a classroom program.Utilizes appropriate educational
techniques and methods suited to student's individual
needs.Selects, develops and implements appropriate materials and
equipment.Develops a positive educational environment including
appropriate behavior management strategies.Records, reports and
interprets the behavior and progress of students, making necessary
program modifications.Works and communicates effectively with
parents.Creates and maintains a positive and safe environment
consisting of the health, medical and safety concerns of the
students.Maintains the immediate and on-going supervisory
responsibilities of teacher aides, volunteers and other
non-professional personnel who may participate in the
classroom.Carries out all educational and therapeutic programs
including lifting, moving and positioning of students.Participates
in various teacher related meetings and in-service sessions deemed
necessary by the Agency Director and/or Coordinating Teacher.Other
duties may be assigned. Supervisory Responsibilities Directly
supervises 4-5 employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities
in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training
employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising
performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing
complaints and resolving problems. Qualifications To perform this

Experience Bachelor's degree (B. A. or B. S.) from a four-year
college or university required. Six (6) months to one (1) year
related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of
education and experience.Must be certified by the State Education
Department to teach children with special needs or are currently
working towards that certification. Language Skills Ability to
read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals,
professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental
regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and
procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and
respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers,
and the general public. Physical Demands While performing the
duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands
to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or
hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; and
stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally
required to climb or balance and taste or smell. The employee must
regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision
abilities required by this job include close vision, distance
vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and

job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid
conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather
